International HumComm iDEA Lab

A globally networked, student-centered ecosystem dedicated to the co-creation of interdisciplinary humanities communications products. The Lab supports the development of digital and public-facing projects—videos, podcasts, web-based platforms, social media campaigns, interactive storytelling, and games—produced collaboratively by students, for students. The iDEA Lab decentralizes the production and circulation of humanities knowledge, moving it beyond elite academic spaces and into broader, more diverse public spheres. Students will collaborate with educators to ensure that projects are adaptable for use in diverse teaching contexts, supporting faculty and teachers in integrating engaging, accessible humanities content into their courses. The goal of the HumComm Students program is to actively transform student perceptions of the humanities by meeting Gen Z/Alpha where they are. We use research-driven insights into social media conversations and the future of work to create gamified, active learning experiences that debunk myths and strategically connect humanistic skills to students' personal identity and career success.”

Because our students already speak the language of their peers, the most powerful humanities strategy isn't one we hand to them—it's one we co-create with them, turning communication into something as fun, joyful, and creative as the social media and games where they already live.

Joy as Strategy
Meet the innovators:
Christine Henseler is the director whose research founded the Humanities Communications Student program. She combines deep academic expertise in the humanities with a proven, career-long commitment to institutional innovation and student-centered advocacy. She has spent years dismantling the "siloed" perception of the arts and humanities, consistently building practical, interdisciplinary frameworks—such as her work on the "Entrepreneurial Humanities" and student-led digital storytelling—that bridge the gap between rigorous scholarship and real-world career readiness. Her leadership is defined by a "builder" philosophy that prioritizes co-creation with students, ensuring that the SEP is not just a top-down academic initiative, but a vibrant, evidence-based response to the actual needs of the next generation.
