Humanities Communication in Action

The CHC led at the American Academy of Arts & Sciences in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a first-of-its-kind event (by invitation only): a Humanities Communication Convening of humanities organization leaders with leaders in science communication, journalism and media, communication, public relations, advocacy, social media, and other fields.

 March 2024     Funding granted for CHC Convening 
The Center for Humanities Communication (CHC), in partnership with its fiscal sponsor, the American Association of Colleges & Universities (AAC&U), was awarded a NEH Chair’s Grant by Shelly C. Lowe, Chair of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), to organize a “Humanities Communication Convening.”1 The American Academy of Arts & Sciences is partnering in the event by co-sponsoring and hosting it at its headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

May 2024     Draft of the NextGen Co-Creator Internship

With input from 14 Humanities Councils nationwide and from the leaders of the Applied and Public Humanities internship at the University of Arizona, Stephanie Springer and Brittney Crawford, Christine Henseler, and Isabell Sluka of the CHC have drafted a “NextGen Co-Creator Internship” program that focuses on training the next generation to communicate the humanities through social media. 

June 2024      Launch of HummComm Talk Blog

The CHC HumComm Talk blog features posts that spark discussion of the humanities and of humanities communication from guest contributors, CHC Associates, and others.

July  2024     Research & Development for Talking Points Toolbox

CHC's Christine Henseler develops the proposal for the Talking Points Toolbox to offer multimodal, vibrant communication materials that are free, easy, and simple to use and adapt. 

September 2024     Held First Humanities Comms. Convening

 $150,000 Mellon Foundation Grant to Start jump-starting the CHCs' in creating training and resources to address such questions, the Mellon Foundation has awarded the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) a grant of $150,000 to help launch the recently formed CHC. (The AAC&U supports the CHC as it establishes itself by acting as its fiscal sponsor.)
